The ground level railway has an extensive collection of locomotives these can be divided into two categories.

Standard Gauge engines are modeled on full sized mainline locomotives, these are generically called 'Standard Gauge' locomotives. These are modeled at 1/8th scale. The full sized rail gauge is 4ft 8½" which represents 1½ inches to the foot or 37mm per 304mm. Our rail gauge is set at 7¼ inches which was originally devised to allow 1/8 scale mainline railway engines to run.

Pictured left is a scale model of the 4-6-0 express locomotive No.6155 'The Lancer', this Royal Scot class locomotive of the London Midland Scottish railway used to pull famous trains like the Royal Scot from London to Glasgow.

douglas Narrow Gauge engines are modeled on a less than 4ft 8½" rail gauge these are generically referred to as 'Narrow Gauge' locomotives. These are modeled between 1/4 to 1/3rd of the full sized scale depending on the original full sized loco rail gauge. The gauge can be anywhere from 2ft up to 3ft 6". The narrow gauge models produce a physically larger engine in our model size.

Pictured left is a scale model named 'Douglas' which is a model of a 2ft gauge South African 4-4-0 locomotive number NG104 built in England in 1896 for the Biera, Mashonaland and Rhodesia Railways.
Douglas was built over 5 years by the late Tom Snoxell a past President and club founder and finished in 1983.
