| We welcome prospective members especially if you are interested in the railway, steam engines and trains. The society is always seeking additional members to help run the railway,and grow their own skill set. You can be assured of a warm welcome from our members who pride themselves in their wide and diverse range of interests. The best time for a 'look behind the scenes' tour is on a non open day, we can sometimes arrange a visit on an Open Day at the discretion of the Duty Officer, subject to manpower availability. |
The objectives of the Society is to:-
Be a society for the purpose of bringing together people interested in the
construction models, tools & apparatus.
Maintain an active membership - currently around 180 adults members & 15 junior members.
Run and maintaining it's two miniature live steam railways.
To achieve this the Society :-
Provide workshop facilities for the construction and running of the railway,
Provide workshop
for building and maintaining steam & electric locomotives, traction engines, steam boats,
and other models for experimental and other purposes.
Provides the railway and its facilities for running of members Steam & Electric and other locomotives,
Provides reference library of engineering; model engineering & miniature engineering books.
Fosters mutual contacts with other clubs and societies.
Promotes social activities, mutual assistance and co-operation between its members.
Promotes lectures, talks and films on model engineering and associated subjects.
Promote a public awareness of the society locally via pamphlets and by the internet. |

Club Nights
Members club night is Friday night from 8pm onwards, most meeting are informal in nature. Occasional talks, films & presentations are notified in advance via the clubs newsletter called The Roundhouse Journal and by notices in the clubhouse.

Members age ranges enormously, from 14 to 99 years.!
So don't let age be your deciding factor. Come and see if model engineering and the Malden club is right for you. |

On the left we have Stephen receiving the Junior Challenge cup form our Hon President David, this award is for the most outstanding junior. Stephen's citation reads 'For being a good example to other juniors and joining in with all the hard work all the year round, including helping on open days.'
The club nearly always presents a junior award every year and this comes with the juniors cup, a shield to keep, and a cash prize for the recipient.
Senior members can also be nominated to receive either the challenge shield or engineering cups, Winners of these awards receive a personal shield to keep and a cash prize..

Sunday - Day time
Working members are at the site every Sunday of the year from 10:00am onwards till approximately 18:00 either running or maintaining the railway and its facilities. Currently around 25 members meet regularly. [Bring your own lunch, tea and coffee provided etc] |
Tuesday - Day time
This is when the clubs retired members meets, this is known as the 'SAGA' working group, they meet between
10am till 4pm at the Societies HQ .Currently around 15 members meet regularly
doing all those essential job that help the society function normally. [Bring your own lunch, tea and coffee provided etc] Part of this group also use the workshop - Further information is located in the Workshop web page |
Friday - Day time
A small group of around 4-5 people are meeting during the day on Friday, doing their own machining / engineering work in the work shop - Further information on work shop facilities are located in the Workshop web page |
Friday - Evening
20 - 30 members meet to discus engineering topics or anything that takes their fancy, like putting the world to rights and drinking tea 8pm till 10pm. During the winter period talks are periodically arranged and other social events are notified to members during the year. |
Track Days / Public open days
The railway opens to the public on the first Sunday of the month and all bank holiays from Easter until October inclusive, and we also run a December Santa Special. |

Membership Applications process
It is usual practice for prospective members to come for a site visit, this allows one to look around the site, and meet other members. Once this has happened an application form can be submitted as follows:-
