Standard Gauge engines are modeled on full sized mainline locomotives, these are generically called 'Standard Gauge' locomotives. These are modeled at 1/8th scale. The full sized rail gauge is 4ft 8½" which represents 1½ inches to the foot or 37mm per 304mm. Our rail gauge is set at 7¼ inches which was originally devised to allow 1/8 scale mainline railway engines to run.
Pictured left is a scale model of the 4-6-0 express locomotive No.6155 'The Lancer', this Royal Scot class locomotive of the London Midland Scottish railway used to pull famous trains like the Royal Scot from London to Glasgow. |
